Tufpak was initially founded in 1976 to specifically bring to the retail packaging industry the new technology then just started in Europe, using the extraordinary strength and paper-like crispness of newly developed high-density polyethylene. The new plastic resin, extruded into a film, allowed the fabrication of merchandise carriers superior to the then paper sacks prevalently in use by Merchandise Retailers. Such films are commonplace today and Tufpak has moved far beyond that specialty but maintains its desire for uniqueness.
